Introducing the Hallmarks of Aging
To understand why do humans age, scientists and researchers were able to come up with 9 categories that will help us understand the cellular and molecular hallmarks of aging.
In the research paper released by a research journal on Cell on the 6th of June 2013, the 9 Hallmarks of aging were identified, and these would include:
- altered intercellular communication
- cellular senescence
- deregulated nutrient-sensing
- epigenetic alterations
- genomic instability
- loss of proteostasis
- mitochondrial dysfunction
- stem cell exhaustion
- telomere attrition
GENOMIC INSTABILITY:
Genomic instability starts to occur when there is exposure to smoke, chemicals, and other damaging agents. The body experiences DNA replication errors or oxidative stress and this causes damage to the cells over time and through the course of our lives- when genomic instability occurs it can lead to mutations in cells that can be the leading cause of cancer formation.
TELOMERE ATTRITION
A telomere is likened to the plastic tip of shoelaces that protect the braided ends of the hair, our telomere is responsible for protecting the terminal ends of our chromosomes, so it will not deteriorate. But there comes a time when there is so much cell division and this leads to cell growth arrest- when this occurs aging starts to happen- because the ability of the tissues to regenerate gets weaker as we age.
III. EPIGENETIC ALTERATIONS
The body undergoes epigenetic alterations as we age, there are certain genes that develop and modify themselves according to each body part. The aging starts to occur once the body changes its epigenetic code, this is a normal response of the body- when this occurs there is a suppression of the immune cells- causing our bodies to be less resilient to pathogens that lead us to see the signs of aging.
There are some people who are faster, while there are people who are already 70 years old and still run a marathon, write great books and even produce films.
International artist and CEO and Founder of Timeless Entertainment Inc. are one of the testaments of stem cell therapy. Through stem cell therapy solutions provided by Feeling Good at Any Age The One-Stop Rejuvenation Center in California, she is able to keep an active and healthy lifestyle. Because of the ability of stem cell therapy to cure the body and rejuvenate the cells, people can now enjoy a much longer life.
Stem Cell therapy can now cure diseases like cancer and dementia and could even be used to treat congenital disorders that cause biological aging. By studying the 9 Hallmarks of Aging, scientists and researchers are now understanding ways to stop the progress of aging in the body and help make humans live a much longer and fulfilling life.
In the next article, we will discuss more the other hallmarks of aging and what can be done to prevent the signs of aging from increasing in the body.
