The Demel in Vienna
The Demel in Vienna will simply make you gasp with joy, it is indeed what they call a Viennese Fairytale.
It was in 1786 across the now-former Royal & Imperial Hofburgtheatre that confectioner Ludwig Dehne opened his confiserie, it instantly became popular and flourished into a success story. It was an instant hotspot among the aristocrats and Vienna’s bourgeoisie.
Emperor Franz Joseph I would frequent the establishment and write long love letters. The cafe became even more famous because of its violet sorbet. Demel is said to be the best pilgrimage site for those who love sweets, and even after the fall of the monarchy, the cafe is still a status symbol. Anna Demel strictly guarded and assured the old standard and traditions were kept in running the cafe. It continues to be a portal for monarchic times until this day.

Whether it’s coffee or hot chocolate, the famous Doboscake, the tempting cream slices, tea biscuits, ring cakes or strudel – all are handmade with love, baked, and decorated with passion and made for the perfect visit at this famous confiserie with the fairytale-like flair of former imperial times.

A local gem with a tremendous history. Highly recommend trying their signature drink – a Marchesi! Service is fantastic from barmen with white shirts, black bow ties, and vests. A trip back in time to more classical times.
Taxinge Slottscafe
Taxinge Castle Cafe in Sweden also known as the ” Cake Castle”, is Europe’s largest cake buffet. The best thing about it is that all of the cakes served are baked locally and there are also gluten-free cakes. They do not make use of any artificial ingredients or semi-manufactured products. They have come up with several exciting cakes and named some as Treasure Chest, Gemmy, and Almond Flower. Expect to be served with 60 different cakes from Sacher torte to carrot cake. The cafe also offers sandwiches and big feasts for those who are looking for a full course meal. The best thing about the experience is that you can sit in the castle, and walk through the promontory garden overlooking Gripsholm Bay.
It is best to visit the cafe during August and September when tourists are not flocking the area to maximize the experience. The outdoor setting is amazing with a very relaxed atmosphere and a super nice view of the lake.

The setting is rural swedish postcard material. Little red timber houses, beautiful lakes and forests.

Try the fruitcake with banana sponge cake and whipped cream or a piece of carrot cake with really decadent frosting. You will also love the mazarines flavored with raspberry and the almond medallions with jam and glace and the cafe’s famous danish bread.
