The Royal Portuguese Cabinet of reading is a library found in the center of Rio de Janeiro, it is currently listed by the State Institute of Cultural Heritage.

The architecture is pure beauty, it has a calm atmosphere perfect for moments. There is also a huge storehouse of books. It is definitely a mecca for book readers. Real Gabinete Portugues Da Leitura is both historical and beautiful. It reveals how important the Portuguese language is around the world, and there are also very rare books accessible for researchers.

There are some books as old as nearly 500 years old, though the building dates back to mid 19th century. It’s interesting how the past and the present are mixed up as you can see modern technologies used by those reading ancient manuscripts.

This wonderful library has been there since 1837 and was first opened to the public in 1900. Not many locals of Rio de Janeiro know of its existence, But this library is definitely worth the visit. The 10 to 15 minutes that you will spend inside the library is very rewarding in itself.
